The She Adventures Film Tour returns to Santa Cruz on Saturday 23 January 2027, bringing an evening of fearless women, untold stories and groundbreaking achievements in adventure sport and exploration to the much-loved Rio Theatre.
The program delivers a specially curated line-up of powerful films celebrating women pushing boundaries in traditionally male-dominated spaces, from speed climbing and solo ocean sailing to freeride skiing and skateboarding. More than ever, this year’s program highlights the importance of visibility, representation and community for women daring to carve their own path.
The She Adventures Film Tour inspires audiences with stories of courage, resilience and adventure from around the world. What began as a platform to elevate women’s voices in adventure filmmaking has grown into a global celebration of female athletes, explorers and storytellers redefining what’s possible both on and off the mountain.
This year’s screening features over two hours of exhilarating action, breathtaking cinematography and deeply personal storytelling, showcasing women breaking barriers across climbing walls, oceans, mountains and city streets.
Highlights include The Queen Swing, following climbers Kate Kelleghan and Laura Pineau as they attempt to become the first all-female team to complete Yosemite’s legendary Triple Crown in under 24 hours; Pacific Lady, recounting Sharon Sites Adams’ historic solo Pacific crossing in the 1960s; and The Cholita Skaters of Bolivia, celebrating Indigenous female skateboarders reclaiming cultural identity and challenging gender norms through skateboarding.
Together, the films explore themes of ambition, identity, creativity and perseverance, shining a spotlight on women stepping boldly into spaces where they have historically been underrepresented.
Festival founder and director Jemima Robinson says the program is a reflection of how far women’s adventure storytelling has come, and how much further it can go.
