We’re honored to bring Paddle Out home to Santa Cruz for a special private screening at the historic Rio Theatre — one of California’s most beloved surf landmarks.
This heartfelt film celebrates friendship, resilience, and the healing power of the ocean. It began when Melissa, a young woman with Cystic Fibrosis, learned to surf with the Mauli Ola Foundation at Cowell’s Beach — where her love for the sea was born.
You’ll also witness an extraordinary chapter in the life of legendary surfer Shawn “Barney” Barron, whose story embodies courage and redemption, and discover how Bob Pearson and O’Neill became part of Melissa’s divine journey to the sea.
As Paddle Out continues its international festival run, this rare hometown screening invites our community to gather in support of The Living Breath Foundation.
