Sgt. Peppers/ Magical Mystery Tour 50th birthday
sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, and its companion piece, Magical Mystery Tour were both released in 1967, 50 years ago. Sgt Peppers is the most popular rock album of all time, a groundbreaking shift in pop music, as the Beatles quit touring, and became serious recording artists. Many songs of the same sessions, like "I Am the Walrus", "Strawberry Fields Forever", "Penny Lane" though thought of as "SPLHCB" were actually on "MMT"- so they make perfect companion pieces. The White Album Ensemble, who have performed sold out live recreations of Beatles music sine their first weekend at the Rio in 2003, are known for using brass, strings, sitars, whatever it takes to do it right, in this case using the best local symphonic musicians, from the SF symphony, to Santa Cruz symphony to make this a memorable event.
