Saxophone great Charles Lloyd, a true jazz griot, is at the top of his game playing with new and old friends in his latest project The Marvels. His new musical pals, guitarist Bill Frisell and pedal steel guitarist Greg Liesz, join with longtime Lloyd associates bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Eric Harland under The Marvels' banner to tackle an interesting set of songs encompassing traditional church hymns and newer versions of Lloyd's older material. The idea for The Marvels was hatched about three years ago when Lloyd and Frisell—playing a concert together—discovered they were essentially musical soul mates. Still one of the most spiritually engaging and hardest working performers in the world, Lloyd continues to prove his reputation for eternally exploring the universe through music. I Long To See You is the title of their recent recording on the Blue Note label.
